The Sweets of Bicol
(Milyka Laxa/ Jul 3, 2020)
Relieve your sugar cravings with the most luscious desserts in Bicol! While the place is mostly known for their spicy foods, the desserts are actually at the top of the game and are definitely worth trying!

Here are some of the best treats for your sweet tooth when in Bicol:
Linubak
Our first treat on the list is a native delicacy of Bicol.

Linubak is a very creamy type of kakanin made from kamoteng kahoy (cassava), banana or taro with sugar, milk or grated coconut. This is usually served with margarine and grated peanuts as toppings. Linubak has a very unique and rich flavor that will awaken your taste buds - it’s also very filling!

Tiwi Halo-Halo
Sweet and cold ba ang hanap mo? Then this dessert is the best for you.

Tiwi Halo-Halo is known as the #1 Halo-Halo in Bicol, praised as the cheesiest and the creamiest halo-halo ever. Plus, it’s also served with a generous amount of toppings like leche flan, ube halaya and cheese. You may think that this is just the same as other halo-halos but just wait until you’ve tasted it and you’ll be the judge!

Ps: Coconut milk is used to cook the ingredients resulting to a milkier flavor!

Chakoy
Chakoy is more like a classic dessert. A fried doughnut coated with sweet and fine sugar. The bread is super soft and it also has a lot of cheese filling. This is the perfect meryenda in the afternoon with some coffee or juice on the side as drinks!

Puto Bukayo
This delicacy consists of a soft, round and chewy puto with sweet and extra crunchy coconut- a Bicol staple, cooked in brown sugar as filling. This is your go-to meryenda when on tour, taking a break, or when you need a sweet energy booster! Which we all need, by the way!
Bonus: Sili Ice Cream
If your foodie heart is feeling a little adventurous, then you must give this dessert a go! Indulge yourself and your buds with this ice cream majorly made from hot chili and coconut milk. If you are worried about the spiciness, worry no more! Unlike before, you can now adjust the level of spiciness from 1 to 10, so it’s up to you how spicy you want your ice cream to be! Yay!

While this food is not your typical dessert, there are actually a lot of people coming back just to have a taste of this delicacy again and contrary to common belief, it’s actually super delicious!
